CorSport: Milan remain convinced by RB Salzburg star – new bid expected

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan want to bolster their defence by signing Strahinja Pavlovic and they are set to raise their bid for him, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) claims that the Milan management will try to get closer to the economic demands of Red Bull Salzburg by raising their offer after the previous attempt.

Salzburg are asking for €25m to let Pavlovic leave while the Rossoneri would like a bit of a discount on that, especially because they already have a verbal agreement with the player over personal terms.

The 23-year-old has given the green light to a contract with Milan until June 2029, with a salary of €1.5m net per season. He is seen as an ideal reinforcement for Paulo Fonseca’s side, above all to help with set pieces because of his size.

He is also left-footed central defender – a rare commodity missing from the current squad – as well as being young but with notable experience in the Champions League with RB Salzburg.

Not only that, but he was a starter at the last World Cup in Qatar and the most recent European Championship that his just finished in Germany with Serbia, so he has plenty of experience.

  1. They can remain convinced as much and as long as they like.

But you know what will convince Salzburg? Money on the table.

    1. Guy leave gabbia out of this he’s slow misplaces tackles and overall very unreliable we need a defender that will make attackers scared and gabbia isn’t

        1. He excelled in a defense that was horrible to begin with in the last matches he couldn’t mark lukaku or dybala got bodied my lautaro gabbia is a good player but not Milan level I’d rather start simic

    2. Kjaer has left. Kalulu would most likely be a RB according to most news, and Simic would either be sold (unfortunately) or in serie C (also unfortunately), leaving us with Tomori, Gabbia and Thiaw. So getting another CB ain’t that bad IMO.

      1. The Juve BBC mostly managed with just Cáceres as their back up.

Also that Juve midfield basically involved just rotating Marchisio, Vidal, Pogba and Pirlo around 3 positions.

Tomori and Gabbia should build on last season’s platform. They’re still about 50 appearances together off forming an elite CB pairing.

Thiaw could be the other CB.

Kalulu should play CB and RB (obviously behind Calabria who is our captain) so he gets as many games as possible off the bench .

There might not even be room for Simic with the current line up so we might have to loan him to give him gametime.

Another CB will just undo all of the above and we’ll have to wait about 50 games (over a season if we don’t rotate our CBs and avoid injuries) for him to build a partnership.

        1. “Thiaw could be the other CB.”
          Or Pavlovic.
Thiaw did have a good 2022/23 season but a terrible 2023/24 one. It’s a bit of a gamble to rely on him as the other CB.

  2. Guys guys. It’s much more than hating on Gabbia. He is good, Not a world class by any means but good enough. I think it’s an indictment on losing Kjaer and a sht ton of injuries we had. To compete we need at least 4 and going by what we saw last season more like 5 or 6. It is not crazy to think that one of Tomori, Thiaw, Kalulu and even Calabria will be out for some time during the season. I dont think any of them had ever had a full, no injuries season. So yea, it’s more like f-u injuries. as supposed to F-u Gabbia

  3. Or how about f-u Tomori and Thiaw? They were both awful last year, maybe some competition will get them motivated or benched.
Plus Simon needs to be replaced. Do you really think that any team would go into a season with only four first-team CBs? And one who is expected to also play right back.
