By Oliver Fisher -

The Matija Popovic saga seems close to reaching its conclusion as AC Milan have beaten the competition and will soon finalise his arrival, as per a report.

recent update from Matteo Moretto and Fabrizio Romano suggested that the deal was under threat, with Milan trying to construct some kind of operation that saw Popovic go to Monza first, all while Manchester City try to disrupt things.

According to what is being reported by Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) today, Milan will make a signing for the attacking department in January because they are about to seal the arrival of Popovic.

If in recent days City did make an attempt to sign the teenager, whose contract with Partizan expires on 31 December, but in the last few hours Milan returned with a counter-move and have one the race. Now, the Rossoneri are ‘a step from the finish line’ and should land the Serbian playmaker.

Popovic will arrive to strengthen the Primavera initially, but also could train and even play with the first team. He will turn 18 on January 8 and from that moment on he will be able to sign a five-year contract with the Diavolo, arriving on a free transfer.
