CorSport: Milan rekindle interest in €35m Ligue 1 midfielder who could replace Tonali

By Oliver Fisher -

With Sandro Tonali now on his way to Newcastle United, AC Milan must look to rebuild the midfield department which was already battling Ismael Bennacer’s injury.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan are interested in signing Seko Fofana and have reignited a pursuit that started back when he was playing for Udinese a few seasons ago.

The 28-year-old midfielder is the captain of RC Lens and he has been close to joining the Rossoneri on a couple of occasions in recent years but in the end it never materialised.

Now that Milan are looking for midfielders with quality and personality, they are back in for Fofana. RC Lens – who finished second in Ligue 1 – have set an asking price of €35m.

The Ivory Coast international amassed nine goals and six assists in 39 appearances across all competitions for Lens last season, and he is a big part of the reason they have secured Champions League football.

  1. Wait so you sell a 70M 23 year old Milan fan from midfield and you buy a 28 year old player for 35M? 😀 These guys are magic, Moncada is pulling out the talents out of the hat. I know one unkown talent, Gundogan. He is better than this quasi player and free.

  2. We would be making a BIG mistake if we think Fofana would replace Tonali. Fofana plays in a very attacking role. The role of a CDM in Lens is held by Patrick Berg and Abdul Samed. Fofana can’t defend half as good as Tonali.

  3. If the ‘new Management’ will sell a 23 year old Tonali for 80m then replace him with a 28 year old Fofana valued at 35,so what happened to the buy cheap with resale policy adopted by so called Owner and cohorts, then they must be out of their minds.
