CorSport: ‘No discounts’ – Feyenoord refuse to shift on Wieffer price amid Milan interest

AC Milan have a heavy interest in Mats Wieffer, and a report from this morning has given an insight into how much it may cost them to bring the midfielder to the club.

It is a mercato of change for Milan. A new manager will lead the club for the first time in five seasons, but the biggest event is the mercato. Paulo Fonseca’s first summer is vital, of course, but given he will lead the recruitment of a new striker, central defender, and holding midfielder, the stakes could not be higher.

Issues about the Rossoneri’s midfield were evident last season, and throughout the year, there were prominent issues about balancing the trio. The composition was normally the same, but the roles differed, and even when new names entered the mix, there was not a clear trio.

So, a new midfielder will be added, and there is a profile in mind. A defensive-minded midfielder who has a strong physical profile whilst also being comfortable on the ball and able to transition the defence into the attacking phase of play. Mats Wieffer fits that mould.

As Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) reports, meetings will be held in the next few days, but there will be no discounts given by Feyenoord. This means they will stick to their evaluation of the player, and it will cost Milan €30 million if they want to bring him to Milanello.

  1. That’s cheap. It’s not like Milan can’t afford it… sigh, hope they don’t overcomplicate like they usually do

  2. Fofana is more matured skill and defensive mind with lot of international experience and also ready to come to Milan and he cost 20m..

But the management went for a younger player for 30m… They will watch on till Juventus sign Fofana for 15m plus 3m bonus.

    Clueless management

    1. O ffs. Fofana is a ball carrier not a dm. And who said he is ready to come to Milan?
Wieffer is definitely a better fit for Milan if we play 433. He’s also a better fir for 4231. Fofana doesn’t gel with the players we have because they’re all the same profile

      1. Let’s not forget Musah is just 21 years old and still very early in his development… And despite his mediocre season he’s now worth €22m. He has many exceptional attributes (though clearly needs time to develop).

    1. Mate I’ll buy you a solid beer if someone would BUY Origi. It would be a miracle if someone would like to get him for free and agree to carry his salary. Even Nottingham Forest don’t want him.

      1. Yeah offloading dead waste like Origi is a lot more difficult iRL than on computer games. Turns out most clubs/scouts know he’s awful, its a good lesson going forward not to pad the squad with names just for the sake of “depth” as it can be very costly.

In any case we have to hope his ego doesn’t get in the way and he accepts a move to Saudi or MLS if they become the only suitors.

Meanwhile I’m fairly confident that Saelaemakers we can offload for €8-10mn as some clubs will see that as a good deal. He’s arguably a €15mn player after a good season at Bologna but we could use the funds and he won’t get much gametime at Milan as we are well stocked on the wings.

  3. We still need a striker, a top line CB and pay Theo. Until these things happen I will not lose focus by a shinny new toy in the midfield.

    1. We have a squad full of #8s, which is part of the reason we conceded so many this season. Striker is #1 priority but CDM should be #2 IMO. As Krunic’s heir you agree hehe

  4. Let’s be honest 30 mil is a good price, watch how we miss him and he is probably going to Liverpool or another big club. This kind of hesitation represents the lack of experience this managent has.. they had time from December to scout players and hold talks with agents

  5. 20m euro cash + 5m euro add on + simic are fair offer. Lets do it . Fofana are good too but we will face heavy competition
