With the news that AC Milan are no longer convinced by the idea of hiring Julen Lopetegui, a new name has entered the frame as a possible alternative option.
This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about who will replace Stefano Pioli at the end of the season, claiming that the number one candidate remains Lopetegui even if there has been widespread discontent at the idea.
The Spaniard has already met the technical director Geoffrey Moncada twice and laid the foundations for a three-year agreement, talking about the squad and how it can be moulded into one able to win the league.
The paper confirms that there could be some rethinking on the part of the management and they have begun to once again probe other ideas. There has been an enquiry carried out regarding Roberto Martinez, they claim.

There was never a literal mention of Pirlo. It’s just a speculation. Maldini simply thought Pioli was not indispensable to the project. While the management thought otherwise.
To be precise, Pirlo had denied that Maldini offer him the position.
