Dalot denies existence of ‘physical problem’ at Milan and reveals what Ibrahimovic told the squad

By Oliver Fisher -

Full-back Diogo Dalot has insisted that AC Milan do not have a problem with fatigue despite their struggles in 2021 so far.

The next home match against Benevento on Saturday night is crucial and a win is the only option as Milan hope to put the nine defeats sustained in 2021 behind them. Ultimately the team managed to sustain a title charge for longer than most imagined they would, but now are at serious risk of missing out on the top four.

The data is worrying too: since round 19 (the halfway stage), Milan have gone from 2.26 points per game to 1.64, from 2.05 goals scored per game to 1.5, from 1.16 goals conceded per game to 1.36 with just 23 points racked up compared to Inter’s 38, Atalanta and Napoli’s 32 plus Juve and Lazio’s 27.

Dalot though – on loan from Manchester United – believes there is nothing to worry about and pledged a response against Benevento this weekend.

“We know that the last match was not the best of the season, but luckily football gives you the opportunity to make up for it every week and so we are focused on doing better on Saturday against Benvevento,” he told SportMediaset (via MilanNews).

On the physical condition of the team, the Portugal U21 international denied any underlying issues.

“There is no physical problem. On Saturday we have the opportunity to do better than the last game and we are focused on doing it.”

On Ibrahimovic: “We are stronger with him on the pitch. Ibra told us that we must continue to believe in our work.”
