DAZN: Back issue kept Krunic on bench against Sassuolo as exit gets closer

By Euan Burns -

Rade Krunic did not come off of the bench for AC Milan against Sassuolo on Saturday because he had a back issue, a report claims.

As has been reported by DAZN (viaCalciomercato.com), the Bosnian midfielder played no part against the Neroverdi as he gestured towards his back when asked to come off the bench in the second half.

Whilst there is no actual suggestion that this was not the truth, it is certainly symbolic of the fact that Krunic is on his way out of the club and no longer has a significant role to play in the team.

It seemed very likely that Krunic would leave in the summer transfer window but Fenerbahce did not come up with a big enough bid and Milan were not actively trying to sell the midfielder as he had taken on a renewed importance.

This season, that importance has waned and it has become clear that he would like to depart for more regular game time.

Fenerbahce and Lyon are both expected to come forward with bids in January as Milan gave his agent permission to speak to clubs.

It is not implausible to think that Krunic has played his last minutes in a Milan shirt.

  1. Why? What exactly has he done wrong?
He wanted to leave in the summer for better pay, so either Milan match the offer or have an unhappy player, which Milan didn’t want to match. He got picked by the coach to play, played as required in a role which should have been filled by management but they never did, got hated on and is now likely to leave. Never complained, always gave his best 🤷‍♂️

      1. You’ve only really mentioned this year.

As @Maldinis Heir has pointed out he was a meaningful part of our Scudetto and CL runs. As you say he did as asked and never, to my knowledge, complained.

In the US we call these players “lunch pail” because the bring their lunch to work like anyone else and put in the hours.

Thanks Krunic for your years at ACM. I personally wish you well.
