DAZN journalist fuels Milan rumours: “Watch out for Jonathan David…”

DAZN’s Orazio Accomando has added his name to the growing list of journalists who believe that AC Milan are lining up a move for Jonathan David next summer.

Accomando spoke during an interview with MilanNews and he began by reflecting on the business that Milan were able to do before dropping in a name that should be kept an eye on for next year.

A general opinion on Milan’s summer window?

“We can easily define Milan as the queen of this market. We all remember that it began with the turbulent farewell of Maldini and Massara, with the sale of Sandro Tonali and the refusal of Marcus Thuram.

“Then Milan began to invest those 80 million [collected from Tonali sale] and something more. They were targeted purchases and also of a certain international importance, which are already making an important contribution to Stefano Pioli’s team. An 8.5-9/10 mercato.”

What was missing for it to be a 10?

“Perhaps we needed greater tranquility in going to get the deputy Giroud. The Jovic operation was only unblocked at the end. As regards the other operations it is a positive market: just think of Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic and Reijnders who are already fundamental in Pioli’s deployment.”

What do you think of the purchase of Pulisic?

“Maybe the American needed this type of project to feel like a really important player again. And he has already made the difference in these first three days of the season.

“And be careful, we still haven’t seen Okafor and Chukwueze who are two top players which are really well spoken of and two important investments.”

How do you see Milan in view of the derby?

“The word belongs to the pitch. The start was absolutely positive, but the derby will be another obstacle after the one against Roma.

“Milan and Inter will be two of the three or four teams that will play for the Scudetto. It will be interesting to understand their attitude and answer will be able to give the new arrivals at Milan in such a heartfelt match and in a packed San Siro.”

Your thoughts on Jovic?

“A last minute purchase, which arrived after several negotiations that had not materialised in the previous hours. Perhaps Milan are missing something there, up front.

“[Jovic is a] Different striker to Giroud and also compared to Taremi, but he is a player that Milan have been chasing for three or four years. It could be the right opportunity for the Serbian to return to being an important player.”

And for the future?

“Milan are starting to wink at the next session. Speaking of attackers, watch out for Jonathan David…”

There has already been a lot of talk about Milan and David. A report from La Gazzetta dello Sport earlier in the week claimed that Milan evaluated him in June and July when his price was €60m and saw a loan bid late in the window rejected.

Nonetheless, they stated that the management will try again in the coming months because they believe they can get the Canada international next summer, something Calciomercato.com also agree with.

  1. I hope Jovic fulfill his potential this season at Milan and as a result of that Milan forgets about David.
I don’t get the infatuation with this player. He is not a true #9, he is closer to Okafor than Giroud in the way he plays, and at least a third of his goals are from penalties.
Lille sold off basically every player from their title winning squad but he is still there. If he was so good one of these clubs that throw money around would have snatched him by now. And then they say his value is 60-70 mil 😄.
Milan must sign a striker in the next window but hopefully is someone better than David.

      1. He scored 24 goals last season.
10 of those were from penalties.
That’s AT LEAST A THIRD of his goals.
Make sure YOU know what you talking about before you come in here with an ignorant response. 🤡

    1. For me Milan has to sign Santiago Giménez from Feyenoord…he is a true 9 and still growing his potencial..and how u Say before David is more like Okafor…For me the best option is el Bebote Giménez..

    2. I watched Davids play with Canada closely in the World Cup. He didn’t receive optimal service and the play being directly towards anf through Alphonso Davies, that being said, when Davids received the ball he was ineffective,
incapable of opening up our opponents defensive line, nor create much for the other teammates, he all in all invisible and a complete non factor against a tired, slow and discombobulated Belgium.

I have doubts as to how he could perform in Italy against astute defenders without being the focal point, or reference in our attacking line based on what I observed from him in a short window. Leao, Pulisic etc all showed more ability to be protagonists than he has against strong competition.

Maybe his World Cup performance was not indicative of his true skills and potential, I hope so if we intend to line him up as our marquee signing because it was an utter disaster when I wat hed him play. They have more instances to analyze and evaluate him.

  2. Jonathan David would be a dream signing, but I think someone like Victor Boniface or Seiko might be the type of striker we should be looking for. Evan Ferguson is another great profile, but he might be sold for 100M+.
