GdS: De Ketelaere struggles under Stamford Bridge spotlight – he remains an unpolished gem

There were not many players who could emerge from the game at Stamford Bridge feeling positive, but Charles De Ketelaere stood out as someone who struggled again.

Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that Milan fans still expect something more from De Ketelaere who has shown glimpses but is yet to have a real breakout game or moment, and he did not shoe himself last night.

The Belgian did not have the clinical nature to convert the chance that Rafael Leao laid on a plate for him as Kepa was equal to, and it appears more and more as though he is more of a rough diamond than a ready-made difference maker.

De Ketelaere appeared to be in great difficulty last night and his problems were certainly exacerbated by an insufficient overall team performance. The 21-year-old isolated and always pressed by one or two men, meaning he was unable to make decisive passes.

The paper also closely compares De Ketelaere’s game with Leao’s, with the latter also very tightly watched but still able to get away from his markers to make things happen. Of course these comparisons are arguably not right for the playmaker who needs the right time to settle in this Milan, hopefully starting with the Juventus game.
