GdS: De Ketelaere struggles under Stamford Bridge spotlight – he remains an unpolished gem

By Oliver Fisher -

There were not many players who could emerge from the game at Stamford Bridge feeling positive, but Charles De Ketelaere stood out as someone who struggled again.

Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that Milan fans still expect something more from De Ketelaere who has shown glimpses but is yet to have a real breakout game or moment, and he did not shoe himself last night.

The Belgian did not have the clinical nature to convert the chance that Rafael Leao laid on a plate for him as Kepa was equal to, and it appears more and more as though he is more of a rough diamond than a ready-made difference maker.

De Ketelaere appeared to be in great difficulty last night and his problems were certainly exacerbated by an insufficient overall team performance. The 21-year-old isolated and always pressed by one or two men, meaning he was unable to make decisive passes.

The paper also closely compares De Ketelaere’s game with Leao’s, with the latter also very tightly watched but still able to get away from his markers to make things happen. Of course these comparisons are arguably not right for the playmaker who needs the right time to settle in this Milan, hopefully starting with the Juventus game.

  1. I like CDK and think he needs time before we can see the best of him.
But yesterday was his worst game as a Milan player. Absolutely non existent. Too casual on the ball, got dispossessed every time he had the ball. He missed a clear chance to score right before half time.
His mentality is an issue for me, he looks shy, non assertive during games, like he lacks confidence. You can’t be like that especially in the position he plays. He needs to demand the ball and be more involved in the game

  2. I hope you are being sarcastic Imk has it took Leao 2 seasons to start playing has he his took 2 seasons to Theo improve is defensive skills took 1 season to Tonali to adapt to the 2 man midfield Kalulu took Kjaer to be injured all last season to be in the starting 11 Bennacer took like 1,5 season to adapt to Milan.CDK has been 2 month now with us without playing pre season and he plays in hardest position to adapt in a team.

  3. Diaz should be started more. And the squad should be rotated more, we keep seeing the same players all the time, what about our new signings. The coach should be questioned

  4. In two years everyone will be signing his praises. He’s 21, on a new team and didn’t have a full preseason. Besides it seems to take players about a year to understand and find their feet in Pioli’s system.
