Roberto De Zerbi, Manager of Brighton

CM: De Zerbi back on Milan’s radar after Paratici met his agent – the situation

Roberto De Zerbi has ended up back on AC Milan’s radar ahead of another potential change in head coach at the end of the season.

Calciomercato.com report that one summer ago De Zerbi was ‘very close’ to becoming Milan boss having been sounded out after the collapse of the negotiations for Julen Lopetegui and before the agreement with Paulo Fonseca.

Eventially, nothing came of it and the coach decided to join Marseille’s project. While they are on course to get a Champions League place, defeat to Reims yesterday leaves them 21 points behind leaders PSG, with seven gaes to go.

De Zerbi’s record with Les Olympiens reads 15 wins, four draws and eight defeats in 27 games, with 49 points earned, but the defeat at Stade Auguste-Delaune is the third defeat in a row, after those against PSG and Lens.

There has been talk again of a potential move to Milan. A discussion took place on Saturday between Fabio Paratici – Milan’s probable new sporting director – and De Zerbi’s agent, Edoardo Crnjar. For his part, the ex-Brighton boss has never made a secret of wanting to return to the Rossoneri one day.

The desire to be Milan manager and to be able to follow in the footsteps of maestro Arrigo Sacchi have always been a dream for him. Whether the meeting was an exploratory contact, a request for information or something more in will soon be seen.

  1. This dude owes Pep Guardiola his coaching career. 5,6 years ago Pep gave him a compliment and he has been living of that till this day.
If he was so good why did Brighton let him go?
Why are they doing so much better without him and with a coach who is only 31,32 years old?
They currently have 47 points with 9 games left into the season, after De Zerbi led them to 48 points total last season.
He has by far the 2nd best squad in France and might not even qualify for the UCL.

    1. Apparently he’s got a firey temper and is difficult to work with behind the scenes. I don’t know what % of truth there is to media rumours but basically he thought he could do better than Brighton, even given EPL salaries.

I’m on the fence about appointing him, he plays possession based attacking football but sometimes defensively suspect. Is he difficult to work with will he control the squad or cause tension? On the very positive side he was a youth player here and has affection for the club, so he has extra motivation to make it work.

In the end, even strong personalities like Conte or coaches with big reputations like Ancelotti would struggle under this management. Which suggests to me if Conceicao can somehow turn this season around eg even 6th place, we should retain him. Too many changes make it difficult to build continuity in a project.

      Forza Milan

  2. Last Marseille game they possession was 80% on the pitch but lose 3-1. Milan no need possession 80-90%. They need result on the pitch.

  3. No no no it’s got to be conte we have had enough now
Get conte in and get the club back to were it belongs
    Kings of Europe.

  4. DeZerbi is not the answer. Milanista or not. French league is less competitive than Serie A and even there he can’t put away the teams he should be beating…
