L’Equipe: De Zerbi ‘unites squad against him’ at Marseille amid Milan links

AC Milan have been linked to Roberto De Zerbi in recent months, and it seems that the Italian’s current situation may be deteriorating.

Even last summer, when Stefano Pioli was heading towards an exit, De Zerbi was mentioned. But in truth, the links extend far past that. The Italian’s name has been constantly linked to the Milan job since his Brighton team started to take off.

Formerly a Rossonero himself, the coach’s stocks have grown at a staggering rate, and even at Marseille, he has still been rather admired. But the Diavolo have never taken the step towards him yet, and it remains to be seen if they will.

As L’Equipe (via Gazzetta dello Sport) write this morning, his situation in France is seemingly deteriorating quickly with the coach refusing to work with the players at the start of the week, after a poor defeat at the weekend.

In fact, the sporting director was forced to step in and mediate, with the players ‘furious’ at their coach. This is not a new thing, though. Throughout the season, the report writes that the coach has been regularly hard on his team, leaving them ‘unstable’ mentally and tactically.

Now, though, they are united, which is something he wished for; the only issue is that they are united against him, which could change his own future.

  1. yeah sounds wonderful like Motta at Juve

but hey he is Italian so obviously he is magic, Motta is challenging for title now right? Oh wait….

    1. He was very coveted while he was at Brighton. People/clubs fail to identify that you need a coach to match your players and philosophy. Why is it that some players or coaches look terrible in one club but do wonders on others? De zerbi’s brighton was punching above its weight in the EPL. Conceicao had a porto giving every team in the UCL a hard time. Every player that goes from any club to ManUnited (at the moment) do horrible. Take even “elite” coaches. Did Julian Naglesmann or Tuchel forgot how to coach when they went to Bayern? Did Louis Van Gaal forget how to coach when he went to united? …Of course not, none of them did. BUT, the point is, they did not match the culture of the team nor the players at their disposal. Does DeZerbi matches our players and culture, if not, do we want to give the time, money and pain in the process to swich all areas (players, culture, lower division, etc) to make it happen. That’s the question. Very few coaches are quick fixes. Even mighty guardiola took his time and a sht ton of money to turn city into what it is today. So, if we think a coach will solve all our problems, we are in for a rude awakeing. Just ask ManU

      1. He was so coveted that Liverpool needed a manager last summer Bayern needed a manager last summer Barca needed a manager last summer and all 3 of them ignored him

Liverpool specifically didnt even call him

Stop hyping up all these rookie managers, look at how Motta literally turned the whole dressing room against him because he doesnt know how to manage and we hear the same thing about De Zerbi in Marseille and you are saying he will magically fit in better with Milan?

Why do we need to give him time? We can just keep Conceicao and have him build here instead of rolling the dice again and have people wanting change again in summer of 2026

        1. I’m not saying you’re wrong about either of them overall, but at this point neither Motta nor De Zerbi are “rookie managers”.

          1. when you dont manage a big club you are still a rookie manager.

Motta literally has 3 seasons at Serie A and you are calling him experienced

      2. You are completely accurate in everything you say. There is no people who really loved Milan are gone and it has now become merely a business venture for those who are in control. There is no quick fix for a team and a system that is failing continuously.

    2. I was one to say we should hire Motta. I still Dat we should hire Motta, while Juve isn’t where they want to be it’s ahead of us with a worse on paper squad. Give him another year and I would say they are title contenders.

On the other hand, that’s all pure speculation, and in reality we got Fonseca and Sergio. And look where we are at.

We need a true leader for a manager.

    3. Get that mental health looked at.
You spew rubbish too much. Especially rubbish that have no connotation with anything been stated above.

Shouldn’t you be glazing Redbird and your overlord Cardinale or something??

  2. The squad is united against the coach.
That’s funny because a lot of people think that he should have been hired and should be hired this summer to unite Milan squad.

    1. Looks like a setting trend these days.
Clubs and and their management would have to look into this going forward, seems to be like an epidemic.

Especially when players do it on purpose to get the gaffer fired. I wonder Ac doesn’t have such a similar situation 🤔
