Defender’s agent reveals client rejected Spurs twice for Milan; hints at possible exit

By Oliver Fisher -

The agent of AC Milan defender Mateo Musacchio has revealed his client snubbed Spurs for Milan three years ago, and has snubbed recent interest from other clubs.

The Argentine was part of a summer transfer campaign in 2017 that saw 12 players arrive with well over €200million invested by the club’s Chinese ownership.

Musacchio was one of the first names on the team sheet under Vincenzo Montella and then Gennaro Gattuso last season, however he has fallen down the pecking order and appears to be behind both Simon Kjaer and Matteo Gabbia at present.

In addition, the Rossoneri might soon have to address the issue of his contract, as the 29-year-old is currently on a deal which runs until 2021 meaning the club risk losing him for free if he enters the final year – a similar crossroads to the one they are currently facing with Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Musacchio’s representative Marcelo Lombilla spoke to the editorial staff of MilanNews about all the issues related to his client, and you can read the rest of the interview here.

“In December, to give you an idea, when he was playing and was at a very high level, as well as the team, at that time I was in Italy with him, I saw the Mateo of the national team and Villarreal again,” he said.

“He didn’t want me to talk to two very important Spanish teams and an English team, he didn’t even want me to sit down to listen, it never happened to me with him. He didn’t want it in the least, how much he felt involved in Milan and how happy he was.

“He is happy at Milan, he has always loved the club and has always wanted to be there. In 2017 we said no twice to Tottenham, and in 30 seconds we said yes to Milan.

“Things split in two, if we don’t see it in the same way with the club then we will evaluate how to continue. Mateo has a one-year contract left and will have to evaluate his future.”
