Di Marzio explains ‘difficult’ Donnarumma talks as Raiola attempts stab in the dark

Gigio Donnarumma’s contract will expire at the end of the season and given his importance, it’s clear that Milan don’t want to lose him for free. However, the negotiations are looking increasingly difficult.

The goalkeeper is considered one of the best in the world and at his age, 22, there is still room for improvement. Despite his love for Milan, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have been unable to reach an agreement on the renewal.

The man behind the stalemate, of course, is his agent Mino Raiola who is asking for €10m per year. Speaking on Sky Italia this afternoon, as cited by MilanNews, Gianluca Di Marzio explained the complicated situation and the thoughts of Raiola.

“There is a stalemate that worries the Milan fans. Milan’s offer was higher than the current salary, it must be emphasized in this COVID era. Donnarumma earns 6m and Milan offered him 7.

“He 22, one of the best goalkeepers in the world, his agent says ‘a free agent like him can go and earn 10-11msomewhere else’. He doesn’t know this, but he’s trying. So now there is a difficult phase, let’s see if this agreement can be found in the next few days.

“Then a great club like Milan cannot be caught unprepared and must start looking a bit at alternatives. Maignan, Lille’s goalkeeper, is very strong, he has a contractual deadline that makes the operation quite easy in the case, around 12-13m. Should an agreement not be found with Donnarumma, Milan’s first choice is the Lille goalkeeper,” he stated.

For now, Donnarumma will have to focus on the remaining ten games of the season, as Milan still have a chance of getting the Scudetto. However, it would be very suprising if he heads into the Euros without a certain future.
