Di Marzio: Milan could launch move for 55-goal Atalanta star amid tensions with Gasperini

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could launch a move for Atalanta star Josip Ilicic during the summer transfer window, Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed.

As the journalist reports (via MilanLive), the vision imposed by Ivan Gazidis for the Rossoneri market has been clear from the start: investing in talented young players who are immediately ready to play at high levels. It is a strategy that has taken Milan into a title race, but there must also be some exceptions to give the squad balance.

That is why Milan are thinking about Ilicic of Atalanta as a potential solution for the attacking department given his ability to play both as a playmaker and as a winger or a centre-forward if really needed. Relations with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini have been fraught for some time and he could leave the Bergamo club at the end of the season.

The Diavolo is following developments with great attention and could become part of the race for the Slovenia international, who has a contract expiring in 2022 which could lead to a price reduction. The 33-year-old has 55 goals and 37 assists in 141 games for La Dea since arriving.

  1. Exception? Wtf? What about ibrahimovic, mandsukic, kjaer? Soon, the exception will be the rule. Maldini and Pioli do not believe in youth revolution like Gazidis do…
