AC Milan goalkeeper Devis Vasquez is set to return early from his loan spell with English side Sheffield Wednesday after playing very few games in the Championship.
As has been reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, the Colombian goalkeeper has only played 10 times for the Owls so far this season and he has fallen out of favour as the number one choice.
He started the first nine matches in the Championship after he arrived, conceding 16 goals and keeping one clean sheet, but he has since been replaced and not featured at all.
The 25-year-old clearly will not develop any further at Sheffield Wednesday so Milan are keen to bring him back and find a new loan for the goalkeeper where he can play more regularly.
The talks between Milan and Wednesday are ongoing to terminate the loan in a way that suits both parties, but it is not clear which clubs are in the frame to take him for the second half of the season.
Vasquez arrived at Milan in January 2023 from Guarani in Colombia but failed to force himself into the team, hence the loan to Wednesday in the summer.
There is no need for him at Milan this season with Mike Maignan, Marco Sportiello and Antonio Mirante all favoured.
…not to mention we have Lapa too.
I think he wasn’t signed out of goalkeeping necessity. But rather to occupy a Non EU slot so we didn’t lose one.
Exactly
Just checked his stats on fbref and they are interesting, as he appears to be pretty good at sweeping and ball distribution but the goal keeping part of his game looks pretty bad lol.
Well, Oliver Giroud appears to be pretty good at sweeping too and has 100% clean sheet record.
😃 😀 😄
The issue is that Sheffield Wednesday are absolutely terrible this season. Sad to see him not make it. Perhaps he will go on another loan soon.
10 appearances are 9 more than I thought he’d have lol. He was the cheapest option for a non EU slot that was bought by us so we don’t lose the slot
loan him in Italian club so he can learn Italian football
True, a Serie B will take him.
Milan must just cover the wages
