Di Marzio: Milan outcast could leave six months before his contract expires – two reasons cited

By Oliver Fisher -

Mateo Musacchio could leave AC Milan six months before the expiry of his contract, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Musacchio was once again left out of Milan’s matchday squad to face Parma despite the fact that he is back from injury and fully fit. Multiple sources are claiming that it is a technical choice by head coach Stefano Pioli who clearly sees him as having no part of his plans this season, given his contract expires in June 2021.

Di Marzio did a feature for William Hill highlighting 10 players who are set to leave Serie A in the January window and are therefore likely to be the centre of a media storm.

On Musacchio, he writes (via MilanNews): “His last official appearance dates back to 10 months ago: 22 February 2020, the league match against Fiorentina. Then the ankle injury, the operation and a more difficult recovery than expected.”

He adds that the Argentine defender is on the sidelines of the Rossoneri’s project due to the growth of Gabbia and the possible arrival of a new defender in January, which means Musacchio could leave six months before his deal expires.
