Di Marzio gives update on Milan’s striker pursuit: “The focus has been on Guirassy”

AC Milan seem to be focusing on signing Serhou Guirassy ahead of the January transfer window as they look to acquire a new striker, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Milan pursued a centre-forward during the summer window but it wasn’t until the end of deadline day that they managed to get a signing over the line and that was Luka Jovic. The Serbia international struggled in his first few months though he has rebounded well recently.

Nevertheless, reports continue to circulate suggesting that a new striker will be signed as early as next month given that Olivier Giroud has still had to work overtime and he is 37 years of age.

Di Marzio spoke on Sky (via Radio Rossonera) about Milan’s plans, and he revealed: “A defender will certainly arrive, if not two. Milan will also try to sign a striker: in recent weeks the focus has been on Guirassy.”

Regardless of the Jovic situation, Milan must consider the age and expiring contract of Giroud. Serhou Guirassy, with his 16 goals in 12 games, seems to be the chosen player at the moment.

    1. It would be a good move , from his movement, goal scoring , and tactical awareness, he is blooming and he will continue if he goes to a team that gives him a chance and believes in him and he sees good service, if Milan should buy him, then he should be the first striker, not Giroud, in my opinion the club should not renew his contract, because having him in the team will not allow younger strikers get their chance, and honestly he is not up to been our main striker we need a better player, he simply lacks the tactical and technical ability of guiding this team in the future…

    2. not sure if your analogy works, but it’s not like we have a lot of options. We need goals now and this dude has 16 in 12 games. He’s got a release clause for 15m, so he’s dirt cheap and he can arrive in January. If we wait until June, other clubs may have stepped up, or he signs a new contract that raises or gets rid of the release clause, and most importantly we don’t get help at striker to make a difference this season.

The real issue here is that signing Giurassy will probably mean no 30-40m striker in the summer. We’ll probably let Giroud expire and our striker group next season will probably be Giurassy, Colombo and Jovic, because the plan will probably be to bridge the gap for a season or two waiting for Camarda to be first team ready. If Giurassy continues scoring like this and if Colombo also contributes that plan may work.
