Di Marzio: Milan’s probable XI to face Lecce – changes in attack and defence

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are likely to start their home game against Lecce on Sunday with Ante Rebic leading the attack, according to a report.

After qualifying for the semi-finals of the Champions League, Milan are preparing to return to the field against Lecce hoping for a win after the back to back draws against Empoli and Bologna.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio for PazzaDiFanta, Milan’s line-up shouldn’t deviate too much from the one that has done well in Europe, but Pioli could make some changes, given Davide Calabria’s suspension for example.

The back four will be made up of Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori as the centre-backs with Alessandro Florenzi and Theo Hernandez as the full-backs. Sandro Tonali and Rade Krunic should be the double pivot.

The trio behind the striker will be made up of Junior Messias, Brahim Diaz and Rafael Leao, while Rebic should start in the centre-forward position from the first minute having won the battle with Divock Origi, thus giving Olivier Giroud some rest.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Florenzi, Kalulu, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Tonali, Krunic; Messias, Brahim Diaz, Leao; Rebic.

  1. Pioli really does like Messiahs doesn’t he ? There must be something Saele isn’t doing right for a returning Messias to come on as a sub ahead of him in the Napoli game.
Kalulu-Thiaw-Tomori-Theo is the backline I would go for.
And I think if Pioli is sticking with his doctorate thesis 4-2-3-1 (no point in changing at the point in the season anyway), then he should continue to play one of the CMs in the AM position. Pobega has proven he can be a good option for rotation. Tonali/Krunic/Ben/Pobega. We’re more solid that way.
