Di Marzio praises Pioli and thinks De Ketelaere can shine in Leao’s absence

Transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has praised Stefano Pioli for the turnaround at AC Milan and has discussed what Charles De Ketelaere can do in the absence of Rafael Leao against Fiorentina.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport (via Milan News), Di Marzio was quick to praise Pioli for delivering four victories in a row after the team had only won one game in the whole of 2023.

The coach decided to change formation to a back three ahead of the Serie A game against Inter and whilst that ended in defeat, the following four have seen victories and clean sheets.

“Pioli did well. Milan had had the strongest crisis among the clubs fighting for the Champions League, with both results and performances,” Di Marzio said.

“Pioli found a solution, like changing the system of play: he understood that it lacked compactness and tried to make more solidity and security, enhancing players like Thiaw and giving mental security to the team. Milan are absolutely cured..”

Milan will be looking to make it five in a row when they take on Fiorentina on Saturday night but they will have to do so without Rafael Leao who is suspended.

With the Portuguese star out, Di Marzio thinks that De Ketelaere could be in line to start the game and impress.

“We’ll see with the absence of Leao, but I believe that with De Ketelaere he can have an opportunity; it’s not easy to play bits and pieces and always have to demonstrate, maybe from the start,” he said.
