CM: Eintracht Frankfurt star emerges as alternative target to Spurs defender – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

A new idea has emerged in AC Milan’s search to sign a new centre-back but it will not be an easy pursuit, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com report that Maldini and Massara are working to find a new central defender who can replace Romagnoli and complete the department with Tomori, Kalulu and Kjaer (and possibly Gabbia too).

The first name on the list is Japhet Tanganga of Spurs and a meeting with their director Fabio Paratici is expected soon, but it is important to keep options open given the unpredictable nature of the mercato.

A profile that Milan have had in mind since January is Evan Ndicka of Eintracht Frankfurt, the team that won the Europa League last season. His contract is due to expire in less than a year, and the 22-year-old has already let the club know that he does not intend to renew as he wants a new challenge.

That is why a farewell this summer seems to be probable, but at the moment the former Auxerre star costs between €15-20m, a figure Milan consider to be excessive. The idea of the Rossoneri management is to sign a player on loan with an option or obligation to buy, thus minimising the outlay this summer.

  1. If we sign him on loan with option to buy with an initial of like 5 mil I think that’s extremely worth it maybe even more than Tanganga

    1. Used intelligently, it can allow for a ‘try before you buy’ approach like Tomori, Tonali, Florenzi and Messias. That’s a much safer commercial approach.

It also allows access to players who are on big money from the ‘stupid spenders’, with part of their salary being covered by another team. Again, financially wise and these players often have a point to prove (great line in Moneyball where David Justice gets told “The Yankees are paying you 4 million dollars to play against them”).

And then investing in young players with potentially and resale value as well as short contracts for experienced veterans.

All sensible ways to run a club prudently.

      1. R trying to explain anything rationally to the serial complainers on here just isn’t worth the effort. They all think they know better than anyone else while in fact are a bunch of simpletons who have no clue about finance or how transfers work.

  2. Ndicka is better player than Tanganga tbh but idk I prefer ndicka tougher taller and he can play on left back so Ndicka on loan with the option to buy 10 mil first after 1 or 2 year another 15 and should be ok
