Entourage of Marseille star discusses future of winger amid links with Milan move

By Oliver Fisher -

The entourage of Florian Thauvin have insisted that the winger has no reason to leave Marseille but that the club cannot afford to discuss a new deal.

It was recently reported by Calciomercato.com that Marseille have made the decision to part with Thauvin this summer, with his contract set to expire in June 2021.

Thauvin will cost around €20million with a number of clubs in Italy alerted to the situation, most notably Milan and Roma. However the Giallorossi appear to have taken a back seat for now while Milan have the clearest ideas regarding their future.

Rangnick likes the type of player that Thauvin is, as does current sporting director Frederic Massara, as it is important to sign players in the peak of their career with international experience to help the youth project along.

Now, a member of Thauvin’s entourage has spoken to Le Phoceen about the future of the winger, and his comments were transcribed by Calciomercato.com.

“Right now, Florian has no reason to abandon Marseille. His interest is to stay,” he began.

“Renewal? He cannot be extended right now. First of all because the club does not have the money to start this type of operation, but also because there is no one to discuss it with.

“OM has to find a sports director for this. The same is true for the incoming market: Villas-Boas may also have objectives, but someone is needed to negotiate and enter into contracts.

“The club cannot ignore these things, even if they are in no hurry given the length of the summer market window.”
