Evening Standard: Milan want €32m West Ham defender but there are obstacles

By Oliver Fisher -

West Ham United are now open to the potential exit of centre-back Nayef Aguerd in January, a report claims, and AC Milan are among his admirers.

Milan are without their three first choice centre-backs Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu as each suffered severe muscle injuries that will keep them sidelined for a few weeks yet.

According to what is being reported by The Standard, Aguerd is on Milan’s list of potential options. The Morocco international is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations and was the subject of interest from Saudi clubs last summer.

The report claims the Rossoneri ‘are also known to be admirers’ of Aguerd – who cost West Ham €32m when they signed him from Rennes in 2022 – but they ‘would prefer a loan deal’ while the London club are ‘only entertaining a permanent sale’.

There is another condition too: David Moyes will only sanction the exit of the 27-year-old if the club can secure a replacement before the January window closes. There are multiple obstacles for Milan, therefore.

Aguerd’s rise was perhaps symbolised by the part he played in Morocco’s shock run to the World Cup semi-finals in Qatar, while he was a crucial cog in West Ham’s Europa Conference League triumph.

  1. Who writes this crap? Aguerd is as injury prone as it gets. He’s only hit 30+ league games twice in his career, and given he’s 27, that’s a bad sign.
