Fabrizio Romano clarifies Saint-Maximin to Milan rumours: “In the summer we will see”

By Oliver Fisher -

Newcastle United did not have any intentions of letting Allan Saint-Maximin leave during the January transfer window but AC Milan could try again in the summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The well-known journalist spoke in today’s edition of his CaughtOffside column and he gave an update on the rumours of talks that Milan have emerged as suitors for Saint-Maximin and that they were offered the chance to sign him by his agents.

“Newcastle were never really open to let Allan Saint-Maximin leave so it wasn’t close with AC Milan,” Romano said.

“I’m aware his agent has spoken about Milan’s interest, but it wasn’t advanced. In the summer we will see, I’d be lying to mention any guaranteed transfer news now for the summer because many things will change for every club in the next few months.”

The 25-year-old has been impressive for the Magpies since his arrival from OGC Nice but this season he has had less playing time due to the emergence of Miguel Almiron and Joelinton as Eddie Howe’s preferred options for the wing.

Should the situation continue, it seems as though all options are open for Saint-Maximin ahead of the summer window, when Milan are likely to pursue a winger, especially if there is no breakthrough in renewal talks with Rafael Leao.

  1. In the summer they are gonna be other teams for him so I really doubt it but of course they are gonna put 20 M budget for the next season

    1. So who should we sign if Leao decided not to extend? Mudryk and Gakpo have gone, and surely they’ve never been in our budget too. Or should we just put the people’s-fave-for-no-reason Adli there? Just like we didn’t find proper replacement for H***n and Kessie.
