It appears Milan are getting closer to Rangnick, even if there have been battles about his appointment. A meeting today could be decisive for the future and the German could head to Casa Milan in the near future, depending on what has been said.
Family approach
With it appearing that a relationship is getting closer, Gazzetta dello Sport have looked at how Rangnick transitions.
With Austria, where the team were in a bit of a disarray, he looked to change the perspective instantly. At Christmas, he sent his players a long message, personal to them, to bring about a family feeling, one of trust and closeness.
It is not the only thing, he also gave them key rings with their fingerprints and initials in November last year, to remind them of each other during the months when they were not with each other on international duty before the World Cup.
In terms of the staff, he previously saw players were being treated by their own physiotherapists, he put an end to that. It is a simple mentality, ‘something is right, you do it, even if it involves sacrifices or is counterintuitive’.
Then, there is the connection to the fans. With Austria, his team played games away from Vienna after requests from the fans to be closer to the team. This, although in different circumstances, will be the same.
He wants to hear the fans, players, staff, together. Reinforcing that family belief.
Recruitment and tactics
His team would be much more aggressive, and he even installed a giant clock at Hoffenheim with an eight-second timer that made his players anxious. Why? Well, they had to recover the ball within eight seconds and he wanted them to understand the pressure to get the ball back quickly.
With the Diavolo, he would demand a higher, more aggressive line of pressure. It would be essentially the opposite of Massimiliano Allegri.
In terms of recruitment, Gazzetta keeps it simple: ‘the new AC Milan would be born with similar principles: young reinforcements, even underage, athletic and talented’. This is exactly why he is requesting a full overhaul of the scouting team. He knows what he wants and the people must be there to deliver.
