The draw against Genoa has pushed Paulo Fonseca’s position as the head coach of AC Milan into doubt, according to a report.
As Calciomercato.com report, it was supposed to be a night of celebration against Genoa with 125 years of history being marked by many festivities. Yet, Milan failed to score from over 20 shots on goal, and jeers erupted at the final whistle.
It was breaking point for a lot of fans including the Curva Sud, who chanted against the ownership and displayed several banners making it clear that they are unhappy with the way that things are going.
Yet, while the fans protested outside gate 14, the Portuguese coach was speaking to the TV cameras and telling them he was satisfied with the team’s attitude and performance. It was in contrast to the win over Red Star, after which he tore into the squad.
Football is a results business above all, and Milan were overtaken by Bologna who are now in seventh, while there is now an eight-point gap to fourth place in the standings occupied by Fiorentina. Even the minimum objective of qualifying for next season’s Champions League seems to be slipping away.
The responsibilities for this very negative moment for Milan in the league must be shared between all the components. The coach is often the first to fall though, and a negative result in the away match on Friday at the Bentegodi against Verona would call his job into question.
One more bad result and the board will start the process of agreeing a schedule for a series of meetings to consider whether Fonseca could potentially be replaced at an undetermined future date, dependant on various outcomes and scenarios.
This isn’t going anywhere. We’re likely to win against Verona, the clock will reset and the management will again claim that they’re backing Fonseca. Few games will pass and bad results will show again, we will likely even be more distant from fourth or fifth place and be ranked anywhere between 9th and 7th. We will read yet another article that if Fonseca loses or draws another game, he will be sacked but he will win it and clock will reset again. In the meantime no improvment in our ranking will have been made.
It’s a bit like Pioli’s situation last season (although Pioli had better results). We always heard if he lost the next Xth game or dropped from this or that competition he will be sacked, but yet each time the goalpost was moved again and again until the dying moments of the season when we lost too often to the so called big teams.
Right now the season is over. There is not much difference between 7th and 17th, we will probably make it to the next round in the UCL but the prospects of winning it are less than 1% and it’s not like we’re improving from game to game and that we’re building a squad for the future.
Didn’t Scaroni claim that the minimum is to qualify for the UCL each season, so why are we keeping Fonseca ? We already missed that target, so why is he still here ?
Man as usual you hit every nail on the spot.
You made on error though and that is typing “it’s a bit like Pioli”. It’s not a bit but the same as Pioli. And you are right Pioli had better results per point.
But the same is constant run of bad games, nest is stirred, fans are inching for blood, one good game and maybe two more and everything resets. Same ol same ol Pioli.
Fonseca is just Pioli. But without the love of the players on his side.
Maybe Fonseca would have to lose 6 games against another particular Milan big rival like say juve and get kicked out of CL, for management to act. That’s how it was for the original Pioli!!!
One more bad game and he’ll be closely monitored for the next three games. And so on and so on.
Go f*ck yourselves you bunch of incompetent corporate clowns.
Who cares about UCL anyway, right? It’s not like MM16 & Reijnders wants to play there anyway. They’d be happy to sign the extension even if Milan relegated.
Yawn…
We here this over and over after 3-4 poor results – management is “thinking” of making a change – then dose a pulls a rabbit out of the hat (Inter, Real) and management says let’s give him more time” why?? Simple. They don’t want to pay for another coach and are content with the trash we are seeing each and every week with a coach who does nothing but throw his own players under the bus this alienating them along the way….wonderful
Nothing will happen. We are happy w trash – just like our ownership who didn’t even attend the 125 year anniversary of the club???? LOL. Fkn disgrace
Fonseca will pay be the one taking blame for management incompetence. We lack quality.
I admire Fonseca for some of his call. Conceição should have been bought in someone who displays his character when his team plays.
Those asking for Conte if he was there it would be been a 💩 show.
“Those asking for Conte if he was there it would be been a 💩 show.”
The players wouldn’t have had the balls to act how they have been acting/playing under Fonseca though.
