AC Milan Women won the first leg of their Coppa Italia quarter-final against Fiorentina thanks to a goal inside the final 20 minutes.
The only goal of the game came from Martina Piemonte, who scored her third goal of the year to give Milan a first leg lead to take back to the PUMA House of Football, with the second leg to be played 7 or 8 February.
It was a positive performance against a strong Fiorentina side who sit third in Serie A, with Maurizio Ganz also managing to rest some key players such as Giuliani, Asllani and Mascarello.
When including all competitions it is a fifth straight clean sheet for the Rossonere, and a big match beckons on Saturday against Inter in the derby, a game that will be crucial as Milan look to get revenge after the 4-0 defeat earlier in the seasoin.
The only goal against Fiorentina came in the 73rd minute as Árnadóttir’s free-kick found the head of Piemonte who beat Schroffenegger at the far post.
