AC Milan spent most of the summer attempting to purchase Youssouf Fofana, but they did not finalise the deal until the latter stages of the mercato. Nevertheless, he is beginning to show signs of his importance to the Rossoneri, and he believes he will only grow in the famous colours.

With their midfield problems of last summer, it came as no shock that Milan were infatuated with the prospect of adding Fofana to their midfield. However, the process of adding him to the squad took slightly longer than they would have liked.

This has shown in his first few games for the club, with him still working to get to full fitness, regardless of this, though, he has still shown glimpses of his talent, and as he embeds himself into the squad and Fonseca’s vision, he will only grow.

Speaking of his Diavolo arrival on Milan TV, he also revisited the derby victory, and the emotions involved – his words have been relayed by Milan News.

On Milan…

“Everything here is as they described it to me: the locker room, the teammates, the enthusiasm in the city and also the fans. I have no regrets and I can’t wait to find out more.”

On his arrival at the Rossoneri…

“The management has helped me a lot. Especially Moncada, who is also French, gave me a big hand. All the support I received helped me a lot, the club was a great help. In the locker room there are several players who speak French. I’ve tried to speak a little Italian, but for now I’m not great.

“There are also English-speaking players, I try to talk to everyone. I try to get to know different cultures and speak different languages. I always try to speak Italian or Spanish. I also try to say a few words in German to learn it and keep it up.”

On the ‘courage’ sign in the dressing room at the San Siro…

“I didn’t pay attention to it at first, I was so focused that I didn’t notice it. When I saw it I was surprised, it was written in different languages. And so it was, we just had to go on the pitch and show that we understood.”

On his moment…

“Everyone knows the physical condition I arrived with in the summer and I am determined to get to 100 per cent as soon as possible. It’s not easy, but game after game I’ll try to do better and better and if I make progress it means I’m on the right path.”

On the derby victory…

“I am very happy. It was my first derby here, the atmosphere was fantastic. It was really a pleasure to play it and the win made it perfect. Given the results we were coming from, beating Inter can mean a new beginning. It’s a good starting point and I hope we can build on it to get as high as possible.”
