Youssouf Fofana has admitted that AC Milan were far from their best during the win against Monza tonight, but the three points are important nonetheless.

Milan got a much needed win against their Lombardy neighbours Monza on Saturday night, beating them 1-0 at the U-Power Stadium. However, it was not a performance that was gushing with positives especially considering the start to the season their opponents have had.

It was in the 43rd minute that Milan did get the opening goal of the contest and it came from Tijjani Reijnders. A well-worked counter-attack saw Christian Pulisic launch a cross into the box where two men were waiting unmarked.

Alvaro Morata’s initial header was blocked but into the path of Reijnders, who scored from a few yards out with a diving header, and it would prove to be enough despite the hosts coming close on a number of occasions.

Fofana spoke to Sky at the end of the game to assess what was a hard earned victory in the end, but one that will perhaps do little to ease the worries of the fans. MilanNews relayed his comments.

Do you think Milan played well?

“It wasn’t a good Milan, but against Napoli it was a good Milan but we didn’t win. In the end the most important thing is to win, we are happy about this.”

Will it be a dream to play against Real Madrid?

“It’s not a dream. The dream was to become a professional, now it’s a job. Real have won a lot of Champions Leagues, but it doesn’t matter. We have to give it our all on the pitch.”
