Despite leaving AC Milan last month, Paulo Fonseca’s hunt for a new job could be impacted by his time in Italy, and not from a results perspective.
Fonseca’s time in Milano will certainly be remembered, but whether much of it will be for the right reasons is debatable. The wins against Real Madrid and Inter were phenomenal, but for the results like that, there were also losses against Atalanta and Napoli.
Unfortunately, there were often poor results against lower-quality teams too, so this only further worsens the memories of the Portuguese on the pitch.
Despite the poor results, the head coach was respected by fans, and this showed when he was not jeered at the 125th-anniversary celebrations, being one of a few to not receive a negative reaction.
He left respected by the fan base, even if results had not gone his way, especially considering how his exit transpired.
The exit is exactly what could hold him back moving forward too, as according to Tuttomercatoweb (via Milan News), the Portuguese has a contract with Milan until June, despite his sacking. A complication, as the report states, which could affect a potential move to Olympique Lyon, who have an interest in him as their next head coach.
Whether there is a break clause in the contract remains to be seen, however, the Diavolo may be involved in any moves in the next six months.
A good coach
lol you’re kidding right?
He is good, just the players that has problem.
You can say the same thing bout the present coach
Ummm trying to wrap my head around this…. who’s job is it to get the players on the straight and narrow again?
He is good at what? His mentality is horrible, he made the team worse, the team is physically in horrible condition. Who if not the manager is responsible for that?
He’s always been a systems coach that takes time to bed his style in and has slow starts. That’s how he’s been at each club. I’m not saying he was the right fit for a high pressure club like Milan but that’s the fault of the people that hired him, not Fonseca himself.
Look at the other examples of ‘not knowing what we’re buying’ recently and there’s a pattern that doesn’t make Fonseca the common fault, it goes higher.
if player did not want to follow you dey dont want to follow.. Ask mourinho while at chelsea and same thing happened at Man U
Fair enough. But he still won major titles there. Mou is only good for like 2-3 seasons with his type of football though and the loses the dressing room. Almost like Conte tbh but they do win and player do fall in line.
On the flipside we also see what a very good coach can do….Conte and Napoli for instance. And they were mid table ish last year.
He is a great coach, great respect for him
