Paulo Fonseca has been criticized for his rotational choices at times this season, and AC Milan are suffering as a result of some choices being made.
Since taking the reigns at Milan in the summer, Fonseca has often been a polarising figure among the fans. Many saw his appointment as questionable, and as time has gone on, this viewpoint has become more popular.
Six months into his project, there are no signs of a consistent identity, or even a preferred XI due to the heavy level of rotation which occurs most across the defensive line.
As Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) writes this morning, there are six faces in the defence, and Fonseca has yet to crack the code. A struggle which the paper compares to a ‘Rubik’s cube’. There have been six pairings of the defence so far, and the changes have been extremely frequent.
- Gabbia-Tomori (five games, five conceded)
- Thiaw-Pavlovic (four games, five conceded)
- Tomori-Pavlovic (four games, nine conceded)
- Thiaw-Tomori (two games, three conceded)
- Gabbia-Pavlovic (one game, zero conceded)
- Thiaw-Pavlovic (one game, zero conceded)
17 games, 22 conceded. Worrying statistics that are ultimately not being helped by the consistent chop and change strategy deployed by Fonseca. The longer his tests continue, the more Milan will struggle, which in turn harms his position.
Thiaw Gabbia pavlo should be our def lineup.
With lord musah and theo on rm & lm.
Give management some credit – no one could foresee this Titanic level leakage at the back coming with the likes of Royal, Calabria, Thiaw and Tomori. There was absolutely zero need to spend an extra 13 mil on Buongiorno for example who knows the league, is left-footed and a former team captain……
Dumba$$ biased statistics to use. Tell us which games the Thiaw-Pavlovic and Pavlovic-Gabbia games were?
One was a 4-0 drubbing against Venezia and the other was a backs to the wall, 10 men behind the ball effort against Udinese (1-0) when Reijnders got sent off (AFTER we had scored one). Heck Tomori-Gabbia could win 3-0 against Lecce and not concede a goal. Whoop-dee-do-da.
Give me a pair that concedes goals so long as we win the match. We are not play for 0-0 Juventus (Gabbia-Thiaw by the way, not in the above statistic).
With Tomori, we WON against Inter AND Madrid. Take your biased statistics somewhere else.
And how are these stats even correct?!?!
Thiaw-Pavlovic started against Cagliari, Monza AND Udinese together. They conceded 3 goals in the Cagliari game ALONE, and were criticized for all three games for being awful.
What is with this disgusting lack of fact checking?!?!
Haha this is so true. However this is mostly a rerouting site if anything. Sad state of media these days too because it gets picked up and everyone runs with the tagline. And repeat the falsehoods so much it becomes this weird false “fact”. And the thing is outlets have the ability to make their own and correct mistakes. Matter of fact they can increase their reputation by doing so but it’s much easier to not do anything. Last year same time….a tagline was run (though Sempre had the correct stat initially so credit there) that the newcomers contributed 70 percent of goals which is absurd when you apply basic logic knowing very well Leao and Giroud account for more than half of all goal contributions. But the line got repeated so much so it became parlance. Welcome to new age media for u. And this is not about Sempre, just want to make that clear.
