Head coach AC Milan Paulo Fonseca

Repubblica: Fonseca under pressure to fix ‘powder keg’ – Allegri in pole position

AC Milan lost their fifth game of the season on Tuesday night against Napoli, and Paulo Fonseca is under pressure to turn things around.

According to what is being reported by La Repubblica, nobody at Milan imagined experiencing such a complicated and stormy start to the 2024-25 campaign. The reality of the facts, however, suggests that Fonseca ‘seems to have lost control of the team and the environment’.

La Repubblica’s section dedicated to Milan this morning has the headline: ‘Milan powder keg. Fonseca’s trial, tensions with Leao and in the dressing room’. It paints a rather damning picture about the current state of things.

The coach divided opinion when he was hired to replace Stefano Pioli during the summer as some fans wanted a more established name like Antonio Conte. Since then, there have been a series of debatable decisions and inconsistent results that up to this point have not been Milan-worthy.

Obviously the match against Monza on Saturday will be crucial because if the Rossoneri do not leave the U-Power Stadium with a victory then the title dream will be well over before it even really started.

If things continue to go badly then Massimo Allegri ‘remains in pole position’ to take over moreso than Igor Tudor and Eden Terzic, who remain ‘plausible alternatives’ at present.

  1. Under Allegri, in the best case scenario/ideal scenario, the next games might go like this:
    Monza-AC Milan 0-1 (from penalty)
Real Madrid 2-1 AC Milan (sorry not saving this one)
Cagliari 0-1 AC Milan (from corner)
AC Milan 1-0 Juventus (from penalty)
    Slovan Bratislava 0-1 AC Milan
    AC Milan 1-0 Empoli
    AC Milan 1-0 Sassuolo

    1. We Bleed Goals, that’s a 6-1 record with 6 clean sheets!! I’ll take it!! Dr. Allegri has is PHD in “Slowball” but in all sports defense wins championships!!

  2. Imo, I think it’s high time Fonseca tender his resignation letter as I think that is better than been sacked. I like him honestly, but the fans don’t support his hiring from start.

I was forced to think Conte will make a bad coach in Milan by majority fans, but he proved us wrong. So at this point, I think giving Allegri the chance on the bench will be the better decision even if we won’t be playing exciting games.

And lastly, I’d really be happy if someone else take over from the REDBIRD so that Ibrahimovic can get tf out of this precious club. They seems to be the genesis of this issue in Milan

  3. In my opinion Fonseca is not the problem. The problem is the incompetence of Milan management. They hired him and if Fonseca gets sacked then Ibra, Moncada and Furlani should go too.

This Milan team is poorly built and they are not signing the proper players to improve the squad. Pavlovic is not an upgrade to any of the defenders we already have. This was another waste of money. Similar to the waste of money to sign Musah.

They also didn’t sign a defensive midfielder and any attacking midfielder either. So we started the season without the proper signings to make the team competitive.

Allegri cannot fix anything unless we have a competent management who can give him quality players to make the team better.

None of the players we have currently in midfield makes any sense. RLC, Musah, Fofana and Reinjders are all mezzalas. This team is poorly built and it will difficult for any coach to fix that.
