From England: Brexit rules may hinder Chelsea’s bid to beat Milan and Juve to Brondby sensation

Chelsea are leading Milan and two other Serie A clubs in the race for Brondby teenager Mads Beyer but they face a problem, a report claims.

According to the Sunday Mirror (via TribalFootball), Chelsea are lining up a raid for Mads Bayer, who is still playing in the youth team at Brondby but the 15-year-old has represented Denmark at under-17 level.

Beyer is still too young to sign a professional deal and is still on what they call a ‘schoolboy contract’ at Brondby – which lasts until 2023 – which means he has attracted attention from Juventus, Inter, Milan and Chelsea who are all sniffing a possible bargain.

The Premier League side in particular are eager to get him into their youth setup but they face difficulties in doing so due to Brexit. FIFA guidelines state that teams in the Premier League are currently unable to buy any players under the age of 18 from abroad and can’t sign more than three players under the age of 21 in any transfer window.
