From France: Marseille under pressure as Milan look to pounce and sign star winger

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are looking at the possibility of signing Florian Thauvin on a free transfer given the difficulties arising over his renewal at Marseille, a report claims.

According to French source Foot01, Milan tried to sign Memphis Depay from Lyon towards the end of the summer window but didn’t get anywhere in their attempts as the Dutchman has his heart set on a move to Barcelona.

As a result, they have turned to Thauvin. Marseille director Pablo Longoria contacted Thauvin’s agent Jean-Pierre Bernès to discuss a renewal, but the finances of the Ligue 1 club are not in great health so no agreement has been found at the moment.

Milan are ready to pounce and have started discussions with his entourage over a possible free transfer next summer, but he could make a stay in the south of France a priority if he were to receive an acceptable offer.

If the situation with Marseille did not develop, Thauvin will definitely consider Milan’s offer, especially as they would also be ready to submit a bid as early as January in order to get the winger for the second part of the season.
