From Spain: Barcelona considering move for Milan centre-back as potential low-cost option

By Oliver Fisher -

Barcelona are in the market for a new centre-back who can play on the left side and they have targeted a Milan player, a report claims.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are planning on signing a left-sided central defender this summer regardless of whether Eric Garcia arrives from Manchester City or not. This is because the idea is to try and sell Samuel Umtiti as the Frenchman is not offering the right guarantees, so his sale could bring in funds for another new face.

Various names have appeared on the wish list and one of them is Alessio Romagnoli. The 26-year-old Milan captain of Milan is apparently seen as a ‘relatively inexpensive option’ since his contract ends in 2022 and he has not yet renewed. In Italy he has already been linked to Barça, but it seems more like a move by Mino Raiola, his agent, to raise his salary.

Two other options come from the Netherlands and the first is Lisandro Martínez who plays for Ajax, while the second is Marcos Senesi  from Feyenoord. A LaLiga option has been studied too in Aïssa Mandi from Real Betis, who has been linked with Milan in recent weeks and could also arrive on a free transfer.
