From Spain: Inter join pursuit of 25-year-old Barcelona man linked with Milan and Arsenal

AC Milan could face competition from rivals Inter to land Barcelona defender Junior Firpo, according to a report from Spain.

In his latest for Calciomercato.com on Tuesday, Fabrizio Romano confirmed there was a real and concrete attempt with Barcelona to get the former Real Betis star on loan with an option to buy.

However, there were two things that blocked the deal going through: Barca’s inability to get a replacement, and the player’s desire to stay. Arsenal were also interested, and both clubs could go back in for him in the summer.

According to Fichajes.net, Inter have also joined the race for the defender and he is not a new name for the Nerazzurri. In fact, a swap deal between Firpo and Lautaro Martinez was proposed to Inter in 2020 but was declined.

Antonio Conte considers Firpo a very useful element in his 3-5-2 as a wing-back given his good attacking qualities, so a market derby for the 25-year-old could well take place.
