From Spain: Maldini makes Lazio star Immobile one of his main summer targets

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini has Lazio star Ciro Immobile as one of his main targets for the summer, a report claims.

There are big doubts over the centre-forward position heading into the 2021-22 season, with neither Zlatan Ibrahimovic nor Mario Mandzukic under contract beyond June as things stand, even though the former appears likely to stay based on reports and the latter has an option for his deal to be extended.

According to Fichajes.net, Maldini is aware that Milan’s attack needs more points of reference and the age of the Swede means that he has searching the market for some time to find a forward who can take over.

He has set his sights on Lazio star Ciro Immobile, who in recent years has been nothing short of an elite Serie A goalscorer under Simone Inzaghi. At 31 years old, Immobile has scored 14 goals in 21 games this season, once again being among the top scorers in Italian football, something that he seems to achieve each season.

Such exploits ‘could take him to play at San Siro next season’, the report adds, joining a Milan project that ‘seems to be on the right track’.

  1. This sort of thing is why we’ve failed to rebuild… Immobile is 32 yrs old…how much can he offer really… he’s not ageless like Zlatan….this desperate approach to transfers is killing us..keep signing young players…like Balogun from Arsenal….or Thauvin who is still 27…or Belotti who is 28….We never learn do we?
