From Spain: Milan and Liverpool locked in battle over signing of Real Betis star on free transfer

AC Milan and Liverpool are battling for the signing of Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi on a free transfer, according to a report.

Spanish source La Razon are reporting that the future of the 29-year-old centre-back is a mystery, and even though at the moment he is set to leave the Verdiblanco team at zero cost in the summer when his deal expired, Mandi has not rule dout extending his contract with the Andalusian team.

However, for now he is free to negotiate with other teams, something that Liverpool and Milan want to take advantage of to close his signing. Mandi has been associated with Liverpool on previous occasions such as in January when the English side were looking for a replacement for the injured Virgil Van Dijk.

The player would have ‘more chances of being a starter’ at Milan however, the report claims, as the Rossoneri are currently on course to return next season to the Champions League and are seeking reinforcements in key departments.

Mandi has played 164 games for Betis across all competitions since his move from Reims, and has 59 caps for his country too.
