GdS: €50m-rated World Cup star seen as ideal potential Leao replacement

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could turn to Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven if they are forced to sell Rafael Leao in the next two transfer windows, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) spoke about the upcoming transfer decisions that Serie A teams are facing and the talents who are showing off at the World Cup in Qatar. They claim that for Milan, the perfect name for the attack would be Gakpo from the Netherlands, who has already been linked with a move.

The headline for the section reads: ‘Gakpo and Milan. The right attacking midfielder if Leao were to leave’. His was the Netherlands’ first goal at the World Cup as he scored with a header which unlocked the complicated game against Senegal.

As mentioned, he plays at PSV Eindhoven where he has 9 goals and 12 assists in the league plus 3 goals and 2 assists in the Europa League, and La Gazzetta believe he would be ideal if Leao were to leave.

His asking price is already touching €50m given he has a contract that expires in 2026, while in the Premier League there are teams that have an eye on him and have since the summer.

  1. Is GDS now written by amateurs? Milan cannot sign players for €50+ million. If Gapko is on the market, he’ll go to the EPL. Milan have to be much smarter in the market.

    1. Maybe try to properly read first before comment? It’s Leao replacement, will only be bought if Leao will be sold. And if Leao will be sold, we would have the funds required to buy Gakpo.

    1. 🧢 I’m Dutch and our league is piss poor. If you want another CDK bring in Gakpo for 50M! We can be much smarter with a winger or a better league and a good rw after years+ a good striker

  2. Gakpo is more of a number 9 than a winter though, so I don’t think he should be replacing Leao. Would be a good new attacker though ✨
