AC Milan suffered a big defeat against Chelsea yesterday and are still without a win in their pre-season. As expected, the newspapers were sure to highlight the failure on the front pages.
After the draws against Celtic and Inter, coming back from behind in both of them, Milan were hoping to add their first win yesterday. However, it was a rather comfortable win for Chelsea in the end, beating the Rossoneri in all aspects of the game.

Considering that the season starts in two weeks, there are understandably some concerns among the fans. Furthermore, there is a lot to do on the mercato still, so the feeling is that we could end up in another situation where everything is being done at the last minute.
Anyway, the papers questioned Amorim on the front pages this morning, although it must be said that a few other Italian teams have also struggled to impress so far.

There were multiple changes made to the team against Chelsea to be fair. On the other hand, it still exposes many shortfalls in this team and players who simply don’t care like Leao. We need to send some packing.
Or maybe go back to the roots and play simple but effective football, not some overcomplicated chess on the pitch.
The problem lies in the defense, yet Leao is the one being blamed.
A truly brilliant observation. Just like Allegri needing a target man but getting Nkunku, Milan needed a defender but got Pavlovic—who can’t defend—yet Leao is the one blamed for not defending.

I don’t think Pavlovic is single handedly the one to blame here, as you point out. Look, we all have our doubts and questions about Pavlovic, sure, when he starts nervously sprinting with the ball only to somehow stumble and get tangled in his own feet, but with a lot of work, he’s definitely one to improve. As for Leao? Come on, his attitude is definitely to blame, which affects his game and input. Don’t you remember the amount of times he’d lose the ball and then do nothing about it, not even run back to help defend? You remember a couple of seasons ago when Gabbia was mad at him, visibly mad on the pitch at him for not helping to defend? No more sugarcoating Leao, he’s an absolute diva and frankly, maybe even a liability of some sort. The problem is not Pavlovic as you say, or only Gabbia as many others do, but rather the team as a whole.
You remember the goal against Inter? Eh? It started with Estupiñan giving the ball away, I mean duh; then Chukwueze leaves his man (DiMarco) completely unmarked; DiMarco approaches closer to goal at which point it falls to Tomori to mark him but Tomori is oblivious, then DiMarco scores. Now who did they blame for the goal? Gabbia, and unjustly so. What could Pavlovic do there? What could Gabbia do there?
The team as a whole is not one… just yet maybe, remains to be seen.
The match against Chelsea could have easily ended in a total disaster, with 5 or 6 balls in our net, so you explain to someone that it was just a friendly match. If I’m not mistaken, the transfer window ends in 3 weeks and Amorim is still in the process of evaluating each player. He better hurry up because now it’s clear to everyone that this won’t be good…

Relax people. My goodness. We haven’t even seen the strongest formation and the important players haven’t even been training together for two weeks. What did you expect? That Allegri-ball would be gone after a month of training with the reserves? In the Celtic and Inter match there were flashes of the football Amorim wants to play and at least that looked good. Yes, the Chelsea match was brutal, but if it leads to the right sales and the right purchases, we’ll be fine. With Rabiot returning and the strongest player on every position, I believe we will be competitive. Let’s not get carried away with the doomsday media framing.
I absolutely love the argument that it’s only preseason and that the best players didn’t play. Guys, you clearly don’t understand what preseason is about. Did you even watch the game? We have more than 30 players in the squad. Do you understand that they are fighting for their place in the team? For contracts, for playing time, for the chance to stay, and so on?
And then they put in a performance like this. They showed how slow and weak they are, how little they care, and how simply not good enough they are. Disgusting.
This is exactly when these players are supposed to show how badly they want to be part of the team and what they are capable of giving to it. And yesterday, they showed that they don’t want to give it anything.
And it will continue to be that way as long as Cardinale does not let go of Milan.

How to completely overblow a single pre season game…
– Chelsea are in a different budgeting world to us; they have a depth we don’t and a sporting department that’s been working together for years
– We have a new manager, new system and don’t even have our key players with the squad yet, or only just recently joined them on the other side of the world
Yes, we don’t have an identity after a couple of weeks with a coach who is the polar opposite of the previous one.
We’ve made some terrible sporting decisions over recent years. But what are people expecting? One summer will turn us into UCL contenders? It won’t.
I’m frustrated that the club has taken a post World Cup pre-season and sent the team to Australia and Indonesia. Same as when Fonseca was sent to the US with half a team.
We should have been preparing against the sort of teams we’ll be playing for the first few games – Juve away is the exception and a free hit, the other five are all winnable games if we prepared right, but we’ve wasted that chance.
But for me this season is basically a write-off. I’ll be happy when we win any game. I’ll be amazed if we get top 4. But I want to see us get to a more stable place in the second half of the season. That should genuinely count as a success and a step towards the right direction.
Chelsea have a new manager as well.

But the lack of commitment and fighting spirit and the disgusting laziness of Leao is shocking, it is an offence to his teammates and the fans.
I didn’t expect to see the final system or lineup.
I expected at least from the youngsters more spirit in order to impress the coach but it wasn’t to be.

Stop being a buffoon. RedBird have invested heavily and keeping the club out of debt is a good strategy. This year however, the club will be back in debt without sales.
