Gallery: ‘La Befana is a Milanista’, ‘Ripe for the Scudetto’ – Today’s front pages of Italian papers

The Italian papers are full of praise for AC Milan this morning as they overcame another selection crisis to beat Roma 3-1 at San Siro yesterday.

Milan managed to overcome the selection problems they had prior to welcoming Jose Mourinho’s men as an Olivier Giroud penalty plus goals from Junior Messias and Rafael Leao ensured 2022 began with a 3-1 victory.

La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Milan wave. San Siro celebration, three goals crush Roma. Giroud, Messias and Leao: a Scudetto performance to overcome emergency.”

Il Corriere dello Sport: “La Befana is a Milanista. Inter and Atalanta don’t play, Rossoneri climb to -1 from the leaders. Pioli beats Roma (3-1), Mourinho not happy: Chiffi and VAR inadequate.”

As an aside, in Italian folklore La Befana is an old woman who delivers gifts to children throughout Italy on Epiphany Eve (the night of January 5).

Tuttosport: “Milan, you’re ripe for the Scudetto. 3-1 versus Roma, who end with nine men, and Ibra misses another penalty.”

Well, then I’d call Roma la befana – first two goals were essentially gift-wrapped, Mourinho keeping Karsdorp on who was begging for a red card.
