GdS: Bonera’s sudden promotion causing no issues – squad are happy and the link to Pioli works

By Oliver Fisher -

Daniele Bonera will lead out AC Milan for the first time as head coach on Sunday as he will occupy the role on an interim basis.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport report on Thursday (via MilanNews), Bonera has undergone a sudden and obligatory “promotion” of sorts as he will become the front man on the bench, having to replace both Stefano Pioli and his assistant Giacomo Murelli, both of whom have Coronavirus.

The paper adds how for the moment everything seems under control as the communication chain between Pioli and Bonera is working perfectly. Thanks to the use of a drone, the coach can observe training from home and intervene, if necessary, by contacting the match analyst on the sideline, who, in turn, reports the instructions to Bonera.

This comes after an initial briefing before training, and another one is done at the end of the day. The mood among the squad is high and the fact Bonera was chosen is something that was very well received by the players.

The former defender is recognised as a very skilled person in dialogue and personal relationships. Milan, therefore, are approaching the big game with Napoli with the right attitude.
