GdS: Chiffi officiated the Milan derby well but two episodes leave doubts

AC Milan came away with all three points from the important Milan derby yesterday, playing some very good football at times. For once, it was a derby with almost no refereeing mistakes.

Daniele Chiffi was the referee in charge of the game and as highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport (via TMW), he didn’t make any big mistakes. Early on, he put his foot down as he warned both Theo Hernandez and Denzel Dumfries after a brawl (10 minutes in).

From there on, he got almost everything right except two episodes. Hakan Calhanoglu committed a number of fouls and deserved a yellow card in the end, but he didn’t get one. And Hernandez risked a second yellow he took down Dumfries, but Chiffi didn’t even consider it a foul.

Overall, Chiffi did a good job with such a high-profile game and AIA will surely be happy with his performance. He managed to keep a good flow to the game, it should be noted, and that is always positive.
