GdS: Three new signings, familiar formation – how Milan should line up in 2024-25

By Oliver Fisher -

As we head towards the end of July, AC Milan have only completed one signing so far: that of Alvaro Morata. However, the management have a clear idea regarding how they want the team to look.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has published what they believe could be Milan’s starting line-up for next season, including the targets that are currently linked and are likely to arrive.

Mike Maignan is rather unsurprisingly down as the goalkeeper with Davide Calabria, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez keeping their place in a four-man defence under Paulo Fonseca.

However, Tomori has shifted to the right CB slot to make room for new signing Strahinja Pavlovic, tipped to join from Red Bull Salzburg.

There is another new addition likely in the midfield too as Youssouf Fofana is down as being part of a double pivot including Tijjani Reijnders. A deal with Monaco is believed to be getting closer for the Frenchman.

In attack, Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao will be the right and left wingers respectively, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek named as the playmaker. Lazar Samardzic appears in brackets under his name though, as another summer target.

Finally, Morata is the man down to lead the line and that looks destined to remain the case unless another investment in a centre-forward is made.

  1. We speak about how will our formation look with the new signings while half of the transfer window is gone and we have hardly signed anyone.

  2. We have to get the midfield right. Last year everyone wanted to be part of the attack, and no one wanted to do the dirty work. Leaving our back 4 over worked and exposed. If this comes down to Fofana, I hope he is exceptional at supporting the back line. Otherwise…I’m not sure if the rest matters. We will outscore bad teams and lose to every big team
