AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli can call upon a bit more depth in his squad after the summer transfer window closed, a report claims.
La Gazzetta dello Sport have analysed Milan’s squad now the transfer window is shut, starting with the defensive department where the signings of Sergino Dest on deadline day from Barcelona and Malick Thiaw last week from Schalke 04 will provide much-needed cover in the right-back and centre-back roles.
In midfield, the return of Tommaso Pobega from his loan at Torino last season plus the signing of Aster Vranckx on deadline day from Wolfsburg means there are two alternatives for the double pivot.
The playmaker role can boast two new faces in €35m man Charles De Ketelaere who cam from Club Brugge plus Yacine Adli back from his loan at Bordeaux. Finally, Divock Origi will back up Olivier Giroud having signed on a free from Liverpool.
Dest is not only the back up for the RB. He’s also the backup for LB now too. But the main reason for the signing is because Pioli will field him as a RW once he learns the system.
Pioli uses a defense RW (ie. Salad), not an offensive one. When Leao cuts in, he becomes an inside forward and the RW drops back into a more defensive role. That’s why Milan paid so much. He fits Pioli’s system perfectly and has a lot of room to grow for a 21yr old.
Dest will eventually become the starting RW and he’s clearly better than Salad or Junior Mint. Only time will tell if he can hold that spot. I hope he does well and we finally have a respectable RW.
Dude pioli plays a basic 4231, OH HELL NO, salamankers is not a defensive RW, there is nothing like that in football,we have RW and RWB and we do not play the later.
That salamankers or messias are awful doesn’t mean we play out RW to defend, NO NO NO
Dest is a RB and the idea of him being the RW is very stupid, this is Milan, if we want a RW then we should go and get one and not just trying to convert defenders to strikers
