GdS: Rotation and experience – three changes expected at the back vs. Lazio

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is set to make three changes to the rearguard for today’s game against Lazio at San Siro, opting to go with experience.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) there will be changes in attack where the ‘Pu-Gi-Le’ trio of Christian Pulisic, Olivier Giroud – who turns 37 today – and Rafael Leao will get the nod, but there will be more alterations.

Two of them are to be expected. Mike Maignan has missed the last couple of matches with some small muscle discomfort and wasn’t risked but should reclaim his spot between the posts, while Davide Calabria is also back from a muscle issue and should slot in on the right side of the back four.

Barring any last-minute surprises, the centre-back pairing should change too: alongside Fikayo Tomori there will be Simon Kjaer, which will give Malick Thiaw some rest.

With one eye on the Scudetto battle and one on Wednesday’s trip to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, Pioli continues to rotate his men, keeping them fresh.

Against Lazio, Thiaw will give way to the experience of Kjaer, who celebrated 100 appearances for the Rossoneri in the recent win against Hellas Verona.
