GdS: Maldini, Boban not happy with balance of Milan squad

Paolo Maldini and Zvonomir Boban are not happy with the current balance of the AC Milan squad, a report claims.

The Rossoneri have signed five players already this summer for a combined €90m: namely Theo Hernandez, Rade Krunic, Rafael Leao, Ismael Bennacer and Leo Duarte.

However now the attentions seem to have turned to possible departures, with Patrick Cutrone already having left for Wolves.

According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday, Marco Giampaolo has just one request with regards to squad depth: two players in each position.

Currently though there are a few log jams. The first is regarding the four goalkeepers that are currently on the books: Gigio and Antonio Donnarumma, Reina and Jungdal, the Danish starlet that Milan bought to develop.

The report claims that Reina is happy to be a deputy, Jungdal wants to stay and grow while Mino Raiola is looking for a new club for Antonio Donnarumma.

At centre-back, only when Caldara returns in November will Milan have four in that position.

Left-back is where the biggest issue currently is, with Theo Hernandez, Ricardo Rodriguez, Diego Laxalt and Ivan Strinic all fighting for one spot.

Milan could apparently listen to offers from Germany for Rodriguez, who is now a back-up after being a consistent starter over the last two years. One thing is for sure: two left-backs must leave.

The right central midfield position also has three current options, with Paquetà down as the starter, plus Calhanoglu and Bonaventura as back-up option.

On the right side meanwhile, Conti’s sale cannot be excluded if he wishes to go somewhere and be a starter, in which case a replacement would be bought.

In the left of the midfield, Franck Kessie’s future is not certain either, but a back-up will be purchased if he leaves. It is suggested that Rade Krunic is the current starter in that position.

Ismael Bennacer will be the starting regista and Lucas Biglia his substitute: but the Argentine could also be sold.

Suso looks set to start as trequartista, while if Angel Correa arrives he will be the second striker, a role in which there is already Rafael Leao.

At the moment only a back-up to Piatek is missing in the forward department, with André Silva set to leave the club.

The squad cannot currently be considered ‘balanced’ and as such, there are some issues still to address.
