GdS: Milan and Lazio battling for Atalanta forward – why the Rossoneri are favourites to land him

By Oliver Fisher -

It seems that there will be a battle between AC Milan and Lazio for the signing of Atalanta star Josip Ilicic this summer, a report claims.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that Ilicic’s future looks likely to be away from Atalanta despite the fact he is still under contract until 2023 due to a non-idyllic relationship with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini. The first club to ask for information in recent months was Milan and while the pursuit has cooled down a bit, the Rossoneri management continue to monitor the situation.

Ilicic already lives in Milan with his family and therefore he would accept the destination, but Atalanta have no intention of offering discounts and therefore will ask for a fee for the sale of the Slovenian, but the Rossoneri want him on a free.

Lazio are also keen on the 33-year-old and while he would not close the door to a move to Rome, his favoured option remains Milan where he could play both as an attacking midfielder if Calhanoglu were to leave, and on the right where Samu Castillejo could depart.
