GdS: Milan and Newcastle place same bid for Botman – an auction could take place

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Newcastle United could be set to compete in an auction to land Sven Botman from Lille, according to a report.

Milan have been negotiating with Lille over a deal for Botman since the January transfer window and despite multiple reports suggesting the operation would reach a positive conclusion, the Rossoneri’s mercato seems to be blocked by the fact that a change in ownership has just taken place, plus Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara being on expiring contracts.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews), the duel between Milan and Newcastle continues for Botman, a defender that Lille want at least €30m from if they are to sell.

The bids presented by the two clubs so far are the same despite suggestions Newcastle have offered more, so an auction could take place. If so, the Premier League side would be favorites over the Rossoneri as they have a much larger budget given their cash-rich Saudi ownership.

  1. This makes no sense. If both teams offered the same and the player is hell bent to sign for Milan then there is no auction. Lille will go with the will of the player.
IMO once Paolo and Ricky sign their contracts with the new owners, all these transfers they’ve been working on for almost a year will be closed.
The rest is just nonsense spread by the Media

    1. Yeah, it is realistic that Newcastle offered the same, the club that is full of money and wants to get to the top.

  2. No there haven’t made the same bid, this is complete lies, it’s well known the Newcastle’s bid is far higher, by around €10 million euros, Milan can’t afford Botman right now, we couldn’t even afford Sanchez never mind Botman who will be double the cost.

  3. They might be full of money but their road to the top will be long.
They are getting turned down by players left and right. Outside of Bruno Guimaraes they haven’t been able to lure any good player with their bags of money . They’ve been offering 10 mil more than Milan, according to reports, since January and yet Botman still waiting to sign for Milan and not for them

  4. Would have been nice to be one of those “cash-rich Saudi owned” clubs (Investcorp) lol….instead we get Redbird…..the will of the player helps when he’s in the last year of his deal, like Sanches. Botman is not and Newcastle has offered 10M more. So unless Newcastle gets impatient and drops out of race, hard to see this one happening in our favor
