After sacking the key figures of the management after the Cagliari defeat, Gerry Cardinale has been working closely with Massimo Calvelli and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to identify the replacements. So far, however, they seemingly haven’t got too far in the process.
This morning, it was reported by Corriere dello Sport that Oliver Glasner and Mauricio Pochettino are the leading candidates. Well, while Cardinale appears to be in no rush, time is running out to secure the signature of one of these.
World Cup plays a part
As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below), time is definitely of the essence in this situation. Once the World Cup kicks off, it will no longer be possible to actively negotiate with Pochettino, who also wouldn’t be able to arrive until mid-July.
Furthermore, the technical director candidate Ralf Rangnick has demanded a response in the next few days, also ready to fully immerse himself with the World Cup (coaching Austria). Again, while Milan seem to suggest there is time, time is indeed running out.
Glasner is the only candidate who isn’t directly affected by the World Cup, which could actually propel him to the top of the wish list. It’s clear that giving Rangnick the go-ahead for his revolution in the next few days, and then appointing Glasner, would speed up the process for the new Milan a lot.
